Berberine

Potential Diabetes aid

In one study, berberine was found to help lower blood glucose. This can help prevent and treat type II diabetes and its complications, including diabetic cardiovascular disease and diabetic neuropathy.

It’s also been shown to have positive effects on glucose-lipid metabolism, inflammatory factors and insulin resistance in patients with metabolic syndrome.

One of the most impressive studies compared taking 500 milligrams of the compound two to three times daily for three months to taking the common diabetes drug metformin. Berberine was able to control blood sugar and lipid metabolism as effectively as metformin, with researchers describing it as a “potent oral hypoglycaemic agent.”

Additional studies have also indicated that berberine improves glucose uptake and lipid metabolism disorders. For example, a study published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine demonstrated that berberine can improve insulin sensitivity by adjusting adipokine secretion.

May Help Support Weight Loss

Berberine is one of few compounds that is capable of activating adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (or AMPK). AMPK is an enzyme inside the human body’s cells, which is often called a “metabolic master switch” since it plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism.

AMPK activation boosts fat burning in the mitochondria, which is why studies have demonstrated that berberine may help stop fat accumulation in the human body and protect against metabolic syndrome.

In one study published in Phytomedicine, obese adults were given 500 milligrams of berberine orally three times per day for a total of 12 weeks. The efficacy and safety of the treatment was determined by measurements of body weight, comprehensive metabolic panel, blood lipid and hormone levels, expression levels of inflammatory factors, complete blood count and electrocardiograph.

Overall, this study displayed that berberine is a potent lipid-lowering compound with a moderate weight loss effect.

Potential Protection Against Cognitive Decline

Studies have evaluated the therapeutic potential of berberine against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and trauma-induced neurodegeneration. While more research is warranted, one study revealed that there are multiple positive effects of berberine — some of which enhance neuroprotective factors/pathways and others that counteract neurodegeneration.

Animal studies have also shown that it may help fight depression. There’s evidence that berberine possesses protective central nervous system activities, particularly the ability to inhibit monoamine oxidase-A, an enzyme involved in the degradation of norepinephrine and serotonin, that has mood-lifting effects.

Moringa oleifera Extract

Is Rich in Antioxidants

Antioxidants are compounds that act against free radicals in your body.

High levels of free radicals may cause oxidative stress, which is associated with chronic diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes

Moringa extract has been found to lower blood glucose levels.

Cinnamon Extract

Relieves Inflammation

The antioxidants in cinnamon can help relieve inflammation, which may help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, cognitive decline and more. Researchers have identified many different types of flavonoids in cinnamon, all of which are highly effective at fighting dangerous inflammation levels throughout the body.

Because cinnamon lowers swelling and prevents inflammation, it can also be beneficial in pain management, with studies showing that cinnamon helps to reduce muscle soreness, decrease menstrual pain, lessen the severity of allergic reactions and help relieve other age-related symptoms of pain as well.

Prevents Candida

The powerful anti-fungal properties in cinnamon could be effective in treating and preventing Candida overgrowth in the digestive tract. Cinnamon has been shown to lower amounts of dangerous Candida albicans, which is the yeast that causes Candida overgrowth and can cause a host of digestive and autoimmune issues.

Another health benefit of cinnamon is that it helps to control blood sugar levels; a diet high in refined carbs can increase the amount of sugar in the digestive tract and may be associated with an increased risk of Candida.

Protects Heart Health

Studies show that one of the top cinnamon health benefits is its ability to improve heart health. In fact, cinnamon has been shown to reduce several of the most common risk factors for heart disease, including high cholesterol levels, high triglyceride levels and high blood pressure to keep your heart healthy and strong. Cinnamon has also been shown to reduce high blood pressure, which is another risk factor for heart disease or a stroke.

Research also shows that cinnamon is a helpful blood coagulant and can stop excess bleeding by helping the body to form blood clots. Cinnamon also increases circulation and improves tissue repair, which may be especially helpful for regenerating heart tissue in order to help fight heart attacks, heart disease and stroke.

Stabilises Blood Sugar

Cinnamon is well-known for its anti-diabetic effects, which is why it’s considered one of the best foods for diabetics. It can lower blood sugar levels and improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which helps transport sugar from the bloodstream to the tissues to keep blood sugar levels balanced.

Cinnamon for diabetes can help block the activity of several digestive enzymes to slow the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream after a high-carb meal.  For this reason, many studies have shown that people with type 2 diabetes can experience significant positive effects on blood sugar markers by supplementing with cinnamon extract.

Preserves Brain Function

Because cinnamon is rich in antioxidants, research shows that it may boost brain function and can help defend against the development of neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

Although human studies are lacking, in vitro studies show that cinnamon helps block the build-up of a specific protein in the brain to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. It’s also been shown to protect neurons against oxidative stress to reduce the risk of inflammation and cell damage in animal models, which can help preserve brain function and prevent cognitive decline.

Non-Flush Vitamin B3 (Inositol Hexaticotinate)

Regulates Blood Sugar Levels

One of the biggest benefits of B3 is its ability to balance blood sugar levels and help control diabetes symptoms. In fact, it’s believed that vitamin B3 benefits diabetes by improving the function of beta cells, which are the cells that are responsible for the production of insulin. Not only are diabetic patients often able to effectively control blood sugar levels better with the help of niacin, but niacin might also lower their risk of high blood cholesterol and heart disease, both of which are commonly seen in people with diabetes.

Supports Brain Function

Studies have shown that vitamin B3 benefits brain health and may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related brain disorders linked to cognitive decline.

Niacin is also used for treating and preventing schizophrenia and hallucinations. Plus, some studies and case reports have found therapeutic effects of niacin for depression, bipolar disorder and other psychiatric disorders as well.

Helps Prevent Impotence

Impotence, also called erectile dysfunction, is the inability for a man to sustain an erection. This can interfere with sexual satisfaction and may be partially due to low blood flow and bad circulation, in addition to other factors like stress, fatigue and illness.

Supplementing with vitamin B3 can help prevent erectile function because niacin acts as a vasodilator and helps improve blood flow throughout the body.

Gymnema Sylvestre

Helps Fight Diabetes

Studies have confirmed that G. sylvestre possesses remarkable hypoglycaemic effects and, according to researchers, “forms the platform of diabetes therapeutics in the traditional system of medication.”

The anti-diabetic effects of G. sylvestre help maintain normal blood sugar levels, especially after meals. This is exactly why this rare herb is known as the “destroyer of sugar” in Hindi.

Studies indicate that G. sylvestre is also able to stimulate insulin production in the pancreas, which also helps lower blood sugar levels.

Aids Weight Loss

Gymnema sylvestre for obesity is getting plenty of attention because of the herb’s ability to decrease body weight, inhibit glucose absorption and reduce sugar cravings, as shown by research conducted in India.

Components of G. sylvestre are able to prevent the accumulation of triglycerides in muscle and the liver and decrease fatty acid accumulation in the body. Because the herb plays a role in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, it may help support weight loss and fight obesity.

Plus, if you need help kicking a sugar addiction, G. sylvestre may be able to reduce those cravings.

Rutin

Protects Against Metabolic Disease

Research shows that rutin may protect us from developing metabolic syndrome as we age. Studies found that the flavonoid inhibited the increase of fasting blood glucose, insulin levels and blood pressure.

Rutin administration improved ageing-related metabolic dysfunction by reducing inflammation, lipid accumulation, oxidative stress and mitochondrial disease, a disorder that’s caused by failure of the mitochondria that’s found in almost every single cell of the human body.

Improves Circulation

In traditional medicine, rutin is known for its ability to strengthen blood vessels and improve circulation. It is used to reduce the appearance of varicose veins, relieve haemorrhoids and prevent hemorrhagic strokes that are caused by broken veins or arteries.

A review published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences indicates that rutin preparations were reported to significantly reduce leg swelling, relieve leg pain, and reduce leg cramps, heaviness and itching. This is likely due to its ability to reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation.

ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid)

Fights Diabetes and Diabetic Complications

Because alpha lipoic acid can protect cells and neurons involved in hormone production, one benefit is it offers protection against diabetes. ALA is considered an effective drug in the treatment of diabetic distal sensory-motor neuropathy, which affects about 50 percent of people with diabetes.

In dietary supplement form, ALA seems to help improve insulin sensitivity and might also offer protection against metabolic syndrome — a term given to a cluster of conditions like high blood pressure, cholesterol and body weight. Some evidence also shows that it can help lower blood sugar levels.

ALA is used to help relieve complications and symptoms of diabetes caused by nerve damage, including numbness in the legs and arms, cardiovascular problems, eye-related disorders, pain, and swelling. That’s why it should be part of any diabetic diet plan to treat this common disorder. People who experience peripheral neuropathy as a side effect of diabetes can find relief from pain, burning, itching, tingling and numbness using ALA.

Chromium Polynicotinate

Helps Control Blood Sugar and Prevent Diabetes

Chromium can help enhance the role of insulin, the critical hormone that controls blood sugar and helps bring glucose into cells where it’s used for bodily energy. Chromium also supports a healthy metabolism and storage of nutrients throughout the body, since it can help you better absorb and distribute nutrients from carbohydrates, fats and proteins found in the foods you eat.

One study conducted by the Human Nutrition Research Centre U.S. Department of Agriculture found that when individuals being treated for type 2 diabetes were either given a placebo or chromium supplements over a four-month period each day while continuing to take normal medications and not changing eating habits, insulin values and cholesterol levels decreased significantly in the group given supplemental chromium compared to the placebo group.

Chromium has been associated with a reduction in the risk for obesity, less weight gain and may positively affect food intake. At this time, the exact mechanism by which chromium affects hunger and weight is still unknown, but some studies find that higher chromium intake is associated with a reduction in adipose tissue (fat accumulation on the body) and better controlled eating.

One study done by the Biomedical Research Centre at the Louisiana State University found that chromium supplements effectively helped modulate food intake in healthy, overweight, adult women who reported craving carbohydrates.
