 Thyro Norm

“When I saw Steven, he had many of the signs of hypothyroidism including poor eyebrow growth, slow reflexes, puffiness under his eyes, and very dry skin. Steven’s blood tests showed low-normal thyroid function tests and a very low basal body temperature (96.6 degrees Fahrenheit—normal 97.8-98.2 degrees Fahrenheit).”

“For over 100 years, iodine has been known as the element that is necessary for thyroid hormone production. However, it is rare to see any further mention of iodine’s other effects in the body. Iodine is found in each of the trillions of cells in the body. Without adequate iodine levels, life itself is not possible.

Iodine is not only necessary for the production of thyroid hormone, it is also responsible for the production of all of the other hormones in the body. Adequate iodine levels are necessary for proper immune system function. Iodine contains potent antibacterial, anti-parasitic, antiviral, and anticancer properties. Iodine is also effective for treating fibrocystic breasts and ovarian cysts. Table 1 (page 26) lists some of the many benefits of iodine and some of the conditions that would benefit from adequate iodine supplementation. This book will review the many therapeutic aspects of iodine.

Approximately 1.5 billion people, about one-third of the earth’s population, live in an area of iodine deficiency as defined by the World Health Organization. Iodine deficiency disorder can result in mental retardation, goitre, increased child and infant mortality, infertility, and socioeconomic decline. Iodine deficiency disorder is the most common preventable[…]”

Iodine Why You Need It - Why You Can't Live Without It

Above are some excerpts from this amazing book by Dr. Brownstein. This has changed the way we think about Iodine and it’s function in our bodies, as well as how incredibly safe (and needed) it is in our bodies.

Thyro-Norm is a result of what we have learned from Dr Brownstein’s work as well as our own clinical experience.

Thyro Norm was created to give the user a one stop supplement to correct iodine deficiency, including all the co-factors to help it absorb properly into the body - in a bed of super foods to minimise general nutritional deficiencies.

Ingredients

Kelp

Kelp is considered by many to be a superfood because of its wide variety of nutrients, and has been a staple of several Asian cultures for centuries.

This seaweed is effective in weight loss, supports thyroid health, has been proven to reduce the risk of many forms of cancer. The high presence of vitamin K in kelp, along with fucoidan, helps to keep your bones strong. It may help with diabetes and some blood related disorders. Kelp is also a great natural anti-inflammatory supplement.

Kelp is a great source of natural iodine

Spirulina

Research continues to uncover more and more potential benefits of spirulina, and studies have shown that adding spirulina to your routine could help detox your body, boost energy levels and even enhance brain function.

It’s great for detox of heavy metals (Especially Arsenic)

Spirulina have been shown to promote the growth of healthy bacterial flora in the intestines, which in turn inhibits candida from thriving. Additionally, the immune-strengthening properties of spirulina can help the body eliminate candida cells.

Some other benefits of spirulina includes, lower cholesterol levels, better heart health, boost energy, aid in sinus problems and brain boosting.

Moringa

Moringa has gained a reputation for fighting inflammation and combating various effects of malnutrition and ageing, earning the nickname “the miracle plant.”

Studies have revealed that moringa powder is loaded with phytochemicals, protein, calcium, beta-carotene, vitamin C and potassium. Because it provides a concentrated source of vitamin A, it’s given to thousands of children in third-world countries every year suffering from life-threatening vitamin A deficiency, which is linked to impaired immune function.

Consuming it can also improve intake of trace minerals, amino acids and phenolic compounds. The plant contains a rare and unique combination of disease-preventing phytonutrients, including flavonoids, glucosides, glucosinolates, zeatin, quercetin, beta-sitosterol, caffeoylquinic acid and kaempferol.

L-Tyrosin

L-Tyrosin is used to make thyroxine, a type of thyroid hormone. Thyroxine is the main hormone secreted into the bloodstream by the thyroid gland and helps regulate your metabolism and control levels of T3 and T4 thyroid hormones. It’s important to produce enough thyroxine because this helps decrease symptoms of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), which can include a sluggish metabolism, tiredness, being sensitive to cold, weight gain, constipation, moodiness and weakness.

Selenium

Selenium is a trace mineral, the body cannot manufacture it. Adequate selenium levels are necessary for regulating thyroid function and iodine metabolism.

Riboflavin (B2) and  Niacinamide (B3) are co-factors for iodine metabolism and organification of iodine.

Potassium Iodide, Iodine

Because different tissues concentrate different forms of iodine and iodide, it’s preferable to include both forms in the formula. The thyroid gland and the skin primarily utilises iodide.

The breasts, on the other hand primarily utilise iodine. Research has shown that iodine, not iodide, will decrease lipoperoxidation of breast tissue, lowering the risk for breast cancers.

The kidneys, spleen, liver, salivary glands, and intestines concentrate either form.

Dosage

Take 2-4 capsules per day or as prescribed by your health care practitioner.

Children

Just as adults need iodine, children also need it. Since children’s brains are growing and developing on a daily basis, it may be more important for children to take  adequate amounts of iodine than adults!

Pregnancy

The WHO claims that iodine deficiency is the the world’s greatest single cause of preventable mental retardation!

It’s important to ensure adequate iodine levels in young women before they become pregnant. In order for the foetus to develop normally, adequate amounts of iodine are required by the mother. In utero iodine deficiency has been associated with a host of ailments in children including attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, cretinism, dwarfism, and mental retardation. Iodine deficiency has also been associated with poor hight and bone maturation of children.

Furthermore there is a decreased neonatal survival rate in iodine deficient areas.

Contraindications

Avoid if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

Iodine, like any substance, can cause adverse effects. For individuals unusually sensitive to supplements and medications, it could be beneficial to start on a lower dose and increase dose upwards with time.
